We
have given a grant to the Grove Primary School to enable them to
produce a wooden mural for the main hall which reflects the culture
and ethos of the school and some of the ideals towards which pupils,
staff and parents are working. A great deal of care has been taken in the
planning of the project to ensure that all children have been
involved in the design of the painting, and 50% of the children –to a
greater or lesser extent, dependent on age – have painted a part of
it. After the young pupils had suggested what they felt was
important for the painting to show, and submitted sketches of their
own, the design commission was handed over to art students from
Farnborough College of Technology. Using the ideas of the Grove
pupils, they then put forward designs to be discussed and voted on
by the Grove pupils.
In the Spring term
of 2011 the necessary materials were purchased and the Farnborough
Sixth Formers began coming to The Grove each week to work with the
pupils from across the age range. A room was reserved as 'The
painting room' where the older students prepared the wooden panels,
sketched out the design and supervised the younger students in the
painting of the picture.
Two members of CDFAS
attended the official unveiling assembly on 1July 2011 where the
children were encouraged to talk about the ideals portrayed in the
mural and what they meant in the everyday life of the school.
The four Sixth Formers, Katrina, Charlotte, Matt and Richard were
each presented with a Certificate of Appreciation as was CDFAS.
A plaque underneath the mural records the part we all played in its
production - a well organised drawing together of three local
institutions by the Grove Art Co-ordinator, Tracy Ristow.

Children's Church Trail at St
Peter's Frimley
Meanwhile, Young Arts volunteers are working on a Children’s Church
Trail of St. Peter’s Church in Frimley. We have been very grateful
for the Church Record produced by our own volunteers a few years
ago, and our trail is nearing completion. However we will have to
wait now until building work is finished, in case any unforeseen
changes have taken place! The trail can be used by young and old
visitors to the church, and we hope it is going to be of value to
the school groups who visit as part of their studies.
